Committee Hearing Date: Friday, April 6, 2001
Committee: Crime Prevention
Video Coverage: Minnesota Citizens Personal Protection Act of 2001 (Handgun Permits)
About the Bill:
This proposal would allow more Minnesotans to carry concealed weapons by easing the procedure for getting a permit. It requires Minnesota sheriffs to grant concealed-weapon permits within 15 days as long as the applicant does not fail a background check. Testimony was heard on both sides of the issue. Senator Pat Pariseau, R-Farmington, authored Senate File 1395.

The bill failed to pass the committee on a voice vote.
