SF No. 0296
Committee Hearing Date: Friday, February 16, 2001
Committee: Crime Prevention
Video Coverage: Increases the tax on alcoholic beverages to fund chemical dependency prevention, enforcement, and treatment initiatives.
About the Bill:
This legislation imposes a new "drink" tax to fund chemical treatment and to defray law enforcement costs. Marty believes the bill will raise $110 million annually. These funds will pay for treatment for people without insurance coverage, add more state troopers assigned to enforce DWI laws, cover substance-related corrections costs, and will be used for alcohol abuse education and prevention targeted at underage drinking. Senator John Marty, DFL-Roseville, authored Senate File 0296.

The bill was continued.
