| Committee: Crime Prevention | |
| Video Coverage: Imposes a felony penalty for extreme cruelty to pets and companion animals. | |
| About the Bill: | |
| This bill imposes a felony penalty for certain egregious and intentional acts of violence against a pet or
companion animal. Currently, these cases can only be prosecuted as a
misdemeanor. The proposal would create a graduated list of penalties with a
maximum of two years in prison and a $5,000 fine. In addition, the bill allows
the courts to require psychological and behavioral counseling for perpetrators. Senator Don Betzold, DFL-Fridley, sponsored Senate File 0197.
The bill passed the committee and goes to the Senate Floor. |
