| The Committee heard from representatives of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, Northwest
Airlines, Sun Country Airlines and Congressman Oberstar's Office in regards to ways the state might
help the airlines through the current crisis. Tax cuts, state loans, direct and/or indirect state subsidies,
and assistance with paying unemployment benefits were some of the options discussed.
The next Committee hearing is scheduled for October 3, 2001, and will focus on laid off airline employees and other displaced workers due to the air travel situation. |
