Prepared By: Liam Monahan, Senate Analyst (651/296-1791)

Date: March 29, 2018

SF 2490 establishes the Older Adult Social Isolation Working Group.  The purpose of the working group is to assess the current and future impact of social isolation on the lives of all Minnesotans over the age of 55, and to develop for consideration by the Governor and legislature during the 2019 session recommendations for increasing the state’s ability to respond to the issue of social isolation among older adults.  In a required report to the Governor and legislature, the working group will recommend changes in policies, local community responses, and available services to reduce the impact of social isolation on the lives of seniors living in various communities.

Section 1 [Older Adult Social Isolation Working Group]

Subdivision 1 lists the members of the working group, the appointing authorities, and further requirements for the establishment of the working group.

Subdivision 2 lists the duties of the working group, which include soliciting input from stakeholders and submitting a report to the governor and the legislature.

Subdivisions 3 to 6 describe various administrative requirements.

Section 2 appropriates money for a facilitator and expenses for the working group.
