S.F. No. 1733 - Limousine Window Tinting Clarification

Author: Senator Melisa López Franzen

Prepared By: Alexis C. Stangl, Senate Counsel (651/296-4397)

Date: March 14, 2017

SF 1733 clarifies that in order to use the window tinting exemption for limousines, the vehicle must meet the definition of a limousine and must be registered as a limousine.

Under current law, a vehicle only has to meet the definition of limousine in order to use the exemption that allows for tinted windows. A limousine is defined as “a luxury passenger automobile that has a seating capacity of not more than 15 persons, including the driver.” By adding a reference to registration requirements, the limousine must also be registered as a limousine, have limousine license plates, and have a commercial insurance policy that meets the requirements of law.
