S.F. No. 620 - County Boards Appropriations Authorization for Veterans Memorials Anywhere in the County

Author: Senator Gary H. Dahms

Prepared By: Stephanie James, Senate Counsel (651/296-0103)

Date: February 8, 2017

Under current law, statute permits county boards to appropriate money for memorials to soldiers and sailors.  The current statute specifies permissible locations for the memorials, including “on the courthouse square, or in a public park at the county seat, or in a cemetery adjacent to the county seat, or elsewhere in the county seat.”

Section 1 [Veterans Memorial] removes all location restrictions for these memorials, allowing them to be placed anywhere in the county.
