S.F. No. 156 allows the county canvassing board to meet on either the second or third day following a primary election. The bill also allows municipalities and school district canvassing boards to meet on the second day following the state primary if the county auditor can complete their review first; if not, the board meets on the third day as under current law.
Section 1 allows the county canvassing board to meet on either the second or third day following the state primary. The law is also amended so that the board must complete the canvass by the third day after the state primary.
Section 2 allows a municipal canvassing board to meet on either the second or third day after a primary if the primary was conducted only within that municipality. If the primary is held in conjunction with the state primary, the canvass must be conducted on the third day after the primary unless the county auditor agrees to review the primary voting statistics for accuracy and completeness soon enough so that the board may canvass on the second day.
Section 3 allows school districts to canvass the primary election results on either the second or third day after a primary if the primary is only conducted within that district. If the primary is held in conjunction with the state primary, the canvass must be conducted on the third day after the primary unless the county auditor agrees to review the primary voting statistics for accuracy and completeness soon enough so that the board may canvass on the second day.
